Third basket from the "Basket, Vessel, Sculpture" course given by Lois Russell at the deCordova this Jan-Mar.
More twining, more playing with materials. The spokes are a gray-brown-black coated steel wire and they're woven with #1 twisted seagrass. My original idea was a more standard basket with a decorative metalwork rim. But partway up the metal wires just looked too much like bare winter saplings... so the doubled spokes got twisted together to give even more tree-shapes to them. Not evenly: some are two sets of spokes, some are three sets, one is four sets.
The edge of the woven part of the basket is 1-3/4" tall. The total height is 5" and 5" in diameter.
